Abstract

Ethical dilemma or Work-life balance is the state when an individual is at peace with his personal life, family and job. Today, occupational stress and a dis-balance between personal life and work is a major problem in almost every country of the world. Work-life balance is now a major concern for all the working people especially women. Gone are the days when only men had to go through the struggles of earning bread for the family and fulfilling all the financial needs of the family. Women of today are equally independent and stand side-by-side along with men to support their families. It is, in fact quite difficult for females to cope up with workload as well as their families and children. This article specifically revolves around female university professionals. It aims to investigate the effect of work on the personal lives of female university professionals and whether they have a work-life equilibrium or not. This study determines how female university professionals balance their professional and personal life, what the factors that cause occupational stress are and how they take out time for their families. For this study data was collected from 22 female university professionals. They were given survey questionnaires consisting questions about whether or not they are living an ideal life, how they manage their jobs when they are over-burdened, do their family problems distract them from work etc. The article is also based on previous researches carried out in Pakistan, India, Japan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Croatia, UK, USA and Canada related to Work-life balance and occupational stress.
